The story behind CardCroc
CardCroc was born from a simple observation: existing flashcard apps are either cluttered with ads, require an account, or store data in the cloud -- even though none of that is necessary for effective learning.
As a father, I wanted to give my kids a learning app I could truly trust -- no ads, no tracking, no data ending up in some cloud. An app that simply helps them learn.
As a mathematician and software engineer, I wanted to build an app that does one thing right: anchor knowledge in long-term memory through scientifically proven spaced repetition. No distractions, no privacy compromises.
CardCroc is built entirely with Flutter, uses a local SQLite database, and requires no backend. The app is maintained by me, Florian Drechsler, as a solo developer -- with the goal of creating the best tool for sustainable learning.
